Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Archer Futura Technologies AB for your use of Archer Lingo. They are written to be read, not skimmed; if anything is unclear, ask us before you rely on it.

1.Who we are, and what you are agreeing to

Archer Lingo (the “Service”) is provided by Archer Futura Technologies AB, a company registered in Sweden (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age at which you can consent to data processing in your country, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms on your behalf.

2.The Service

Archer Lingo is a reading-based language-learning application. It lets you read texts in a language you are learning, look up words and sentences, keep a personal vocabulary with notes, review what you have met, and follow your progress. Texts come from three places:

  • Public-domain books from the Project Gutenberg catalogue, which we index and let you import on demand. These works are in the public domain in the United States; you are responsible for checking whether a work is in the public domain in your own country before importing it.
  • Sample texts written by us for each supported language.
  • Your own content: text you paste, files you upload, lyrics you enter, or pages you fetch by address.

Dictionary meanings, translations and grammar notes are produced by third-party services and automated systems. They are aids to understanding, not authoritative references, and may be wrong. Estimates such as a text’s level or your own level are statistical models, explained on the in-app Help page, and are not certifications of proficiency.

3.Your account

Sign-in is handled by Clerk, our authentication provider. You are responsible for keeping your credentials and connected sign-in methods secure, and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at hello@archerlingo.com if you believe your account has been used without your permission.

One person, one account. Do not share an account or create accounts for others.

4.Your content

You own what you bring. Text you import, notes you write and the learning data created from your activity remain yours. You grant us only the licence we need to store, process and display that content to you in order to run the Service, including sending the specific passages you ask about to the dictionary and translation services described in the Privacy Policy.

Your content is private to your account by default. We do not publish it, and our database policies prevent other users from reading it.

You are responsible for your content. Only import material you have the right to use for personal study. Do not import content that is unlawful, that infringes someone else’s rights, or that contains other people’s personal data without a lawful basis.

Anonymous, aggregated signals — for example how often a particular meaning of a word is chosen by learners overall — may be kept without any link to you, and shared translations of public texts may be cached for all learners.

5.Acceptable use

Use the Service for personal language learning and nothing that harms it or other people. In particular, do not:

  • attempt to access accounts, data or systems you are not authorised to access, or probe or overload the Service;
  • scrape, bulk-download or redistribute the catalogue, dictionary data or any part of the Service;
  • use automated means to create accounts or generate activity;
  • upload malicious code, or content that is unlawful, hateful or harassing;
  • resell the Service or use it to build a competing product.

6.Third-party services and content

The Service is built on services run by others: Clerk (sign-in), Supabase (database and file storage), Vercel (hosting), Wiktionary (dictionary definitions), and Anthropic (translations and grammar notes). Their availability and terms are outside our control. Links to other websites are provided for convenience and do not mean we endorse them.

Project Gutenberg texts are provided under the Project Gutenberg Licence; the Project Gutenberg trademark is not ours and we make no claim to it.

7.Plans and payment

The Service can be used free of charge on a free plan. We may offer paid plans with additional capacity or features. Prices, billing periods and what is included are shown before you subscribe, and we will never charge you without your explicit agreement. Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled; you can cancel at any time, and the plan then runs to the end of the period already paid for.

If you are a consumer in the European Economic Area you have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital services, which you waive only if you expressly ask us to start providing the paid service immediately and acknowledge that you lose the right by doing so.

8.Availability and changes

The Service is under active development. We may add, change or remove features, and we may occasionally take the Service offline for maintenance. We aim to give notice of changes that materially reduce what you can do, but we cannot promise uninterrupted availability. We may update these Terms; if the change is material we will tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect, and continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept it.

9.Ending the agreement

You can stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from Settings or by writing to us; deletion removes your content and learning data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, that has been inactive for a very long time after we have warned you, or where the law requires it. Where reasonable we will warn you first and give you a chance to export your data.

10.Intellectual property

The Service — its software, design, sample texts, and the Archer Lingo name and logo — belongs to Archer Futura Technologies AB or its licensors and is protected by copyright and trademark law. These Terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the Service; they do not transfer any ownership to you. Feedback you give us may be used to improve the Service without obligation to you.

11.Disclaimers and liability

The Service is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it will be error-free, that translations or meanings will be accurate, or that it will meet a particular learning goal. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect loss such as lost profits or lost data that you could have backed up.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

12.Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden. Disputes are handled by the Swedish courts, with the district court of the company’s seat as the court of first instance, unless mandatory consumer law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring a claim there. Consumers in Sweden may also turn to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, ARN), and consumers in the EU may use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform.
